A Symptomatic Study in the Perspective of Prognostic Approach in Mechanical Maintenance

Salih Seckin Erol

ABSTRACT

Mechanical systems require maintenance regularly which might be planned or unplanned. In order to sustain healthy period of mechanical systems, condition of the machine elements requires to be monitored regularly. Monitoring starts with collecting physical signals through the dynamic mechanical systems with different types of sensors and ends with the interpration of the signals with a software. In this research, physical signals such as acoustics, vibration and electrical signals are acquired with a Data Acquisition Card (DAQ) that is integrated with a computer system. These signals are collected through an experimental setup that is designed, constructed and located in a laboratory ambient. The novelty of this research is studying and comparing efficiency of acoustic technique, vibration technique and electrical technique in detection of misalignment in horizontal direction and subharmonic, superharmonic resonance failures in the early stage before unplanned stoppages. The purpose is making contribution to prognostics science in mechanical maintenance subject in terms of
